I love food.
I love holiday food.
I love food that is steeped in family traditions.
I love food that I desire to make a family tradition.
I love food.
Thanksgiving is just a moment away — so, I’m sharing with y’all some side dish recipes for Thanksgiving.
Some that are family traditions, some that aren’t and some that I’d like to be family traditions.
Jalapeno Cornbread Pudding – this recipe – I need to re-make because this picture is from 3 years ago and does not do justice to the ridiculous creamy spicy tonguegasmic-ality of this dish.
Mom’s Broccoli Cheese Casserole – the key ingredient in this recipe will make you say – WHAT? but the finished product will make you say, YUM.
Cheesy Chipotle Corn and Zucchini Casserole - “oh. mah. holy. hail. y’all…“ I cannot even begin to describe. You just have to try this.

This Candied Sweet Potatoes recipe from Amy makes my mouth water, I want to hop a plane to Nashville just so she can make it for me.

Y’all might be surprised to hear this but…….
I don’t make stuffing/dressing for Thanksgiving.
I prefer my breads in other forms. But that — that is a post for another day.
What are your family’s favorite side dishes for Thanksgiving? Anything you HAVE to have? Anything you’d like to try?

Sherry Carr-Smith - Mashed potatoes. The creamier, garlickier, and butterier the better. This year, I’ll be using The Pioneer Woman’s recipe (because she gives instructions for making them ahead!). I wish my family liked pepper flavors so I could use some of yours!

Michelle Smiles - Dressing – I love love love me some dressing. I have no idea why I don’t make it any other time of the year (oh yes I do…my butt). But seriously – LOVE! That and some amazing gravy are really all I need.
My side of the family also makes a scalloped oyster dish every year – it just says holidays to me despite the fact I don’t eat oysters anymore after a bad batch once…but I eat around them because they give the dish amazing flavor.

Rachel ~ A Southern Fairytale - We always do ours with Cream Cheese, roasted Garlic and tons of butter
occasionally adding sour cream and grated cheese, too.
I swear, we make them a bit different every single time
Rachel ~ A Southern Fairytale - I’m sketchy on oysters, however… they do give dressing a phenomenal flavor!
and LMBO – the “butt” comment amen sistah

Justine - Oops! Posted my comment over at the Jalapeno Cornbread pudding post by accident
I agree, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays due to the food element- I love a twist on traditional dishes and flavors. I think I’m going to give that cornbread pudding a go- it looks amazing. I’ve really only had cornbread once that I really liked: that was at a BBQ restaurant in Charleston SC, and they were wee muffins or cakes that were crazy delicious. In addition this year, I’ll be taking some kind of wild rice pilaf with roasted carrots and bacon, and I’ve made a pumpkin bread pudding with cayenne the past couple of years which has worked out pretty well
Rachel - Oh Justine! YUM!
I love wild rice pilaf and that sounds delicious!
yes, the corn pudding is fabulous!! We made it last year for christmas and I put sliced jalapenos on the top in the shape of a christmas tree before baking
it was cute and festive AND delicious!
Food is so wonderful
Liberty - All of these look super yummy. I am a SUCKER for anything chipotle…
As far as what I have to have: cornbread dressing with pork sausage. My grandaddy showed me how to make it when I was about 14 and I look forward to it every year!
On christmas – I adore (read: want to make an extra just for myself) Oyster rockefellar casserole.
Hope your holiday is festive and Belssed!

Tasha - My Homemade Happiness - I’m right there with you…food IS tradition in our family. I just wish I was brave enough to try new dishes instead of the exact same things every year. That corn/zucchini thing is way to tempting…I might just have to make it and throw the green beans out the window!
