So sorry to see this. I love that middle photo. What a great smile he had. My mom is currently battling stage IV lymphoma and kidney cancer, so this makes my heart hurt. Prayers for the family.

For whatever it’s worth I can say that I have been there…in the hospital….trying to find those last words, trying to imprint the feeling of his still-warm hand into my permanent memory. Grabbing at his hair brush (why he had that I have no idea – he had no hair by then!) so I don’t forget his smell. Trying to hold onto whatever I could – even though I knew he was going, then gone. Then a huge gaping hole in my heart that felt like it was tearing my chest apart.
But somehow we survive even that deepest pain. I remember feeling a bit of relief that I didn’t have to worry about the worst happening – because it had just happened. I no longer had to be sick with worry. I just had to mourn. And 8 years later (it will be 8 years in just a few weeks) I can look at photos and share stories without crying…most of the time. But I remember being right where you are. So know that you aren’t alone.
