Haiku Cryku Friday

Haiku Friday

Being a mommy,
to have your heart existing
outside your body

to feel your heart break
with every tear that falls
from bright shining eyes

to laugh and to cry
with their first step, their first word
to worry… when, when

When will they walk, talk
to constantly compare them
to every other

what are they doing
that maybe I’m not doing?
Why their child, not mine

To measure yourself
not by personal success,
but by the children’s

To spend many years
just to teach them how to leave,
to live on their own

It cannot be rushed
They must be tended with care
Disciplined with love

Not knowing if you
have done a good job until
they have grown and gone

    Hugs and blessings,

  2. I don’t think it’s melancholy. It’s realism. And, we are allowed to want to keep them with us. We birthed ’em and loved them.

  3. Rachel.. Do you mind if I print this out and put it on my desk at work in a frame.. *totally give you credit of course.. 🙂

I loved this. EVERY SINGLE WORD.

  4. This is beautiful.

If there were an official mother’s handbook, this would be printed as the forward.

    Truly lovely.

    Thank you.

  5. I didn’t find it melancholy.

You speak the truth, and knowing that other moms think the same as I do helps me feel normal.
