A Dedication to Joan Hayes
I had this week’s ‘This Week in Happiness’ post 98% done, and as I was adding the finishing touches, getting ready to schedule it, the news came through my FB feed….
Joan passed away in her sleep.
I didn’t believe it at first. None of us did. There are threads upon threads in our Food Blogger Groups filled with disbelief, people grasping gossamer threads of hope that perhaps it wasn’t true….
Heartbreakingly. It is.
One of our greatest mentors, one of the most generous people with their time, knowledge, experience, and patience… has left us.
We do not know the details, but we know that she went to sleep Wednesday evening, and didn’t wake up on Thursday.
So many of my dearest friends are mourning, they’re in pain, and my heart is shattered for Joan’s family – her biological, her extended, and her food blogger family.
Joan gathered us under her wings, she guided, she taught, she shared, she commiserated, she laughed, she loved, and she gave… she gave of herself, she gave her time, she gave her love, she gave herself….
and there is a void in the world today.
If any quote embodied Joan, to me, it’s this one.
She made everyone feel special, and she was known for her kindness, grace, laughter, and love.
If you have a minute, or 5, please click through the links to Joan’s blog – she was one of the smart ones, one of the forward thinking ones, she left instructions behind dealing with her blog, and making sure that her 3 children will benefit from the content, the ads, the money, and making sure that they have access to it.
I’ll get you started –
What a tremendous loss, such a sweet soul that came through each sassy post. I enjoyed and shared so many of her decadent recipes and will continue to do so. RIP Joan.
I will miss her posts. So sad she has left us. RIP.
I still can’t wrap my head around this loss ;( The quote you found is perfect Rachel
This is beautiful, Rachel. That quote is definitely Joan. I miss her so much.
One of my favorite cooking blogs! Please may Joan’s family find peace, but this is so hard and so unbelievable.
Miss her too!!! Great quote that you shared and it’s exactly Joan!
<3 you, friend
