Serendipitous Shapes, Shades, and Shrubs: Lucky Interior Design Ideas
When redecorating, it can feel like there are so many things to consider. So, why not bring some luck into your home to help you on your way? Let’s take a look at some prosperous decorative ideas.
Bold Motifs
In modern interior design, simplicity is key. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up your space with a decorative feature wall, large artwork, bold decals, or exaggerated prints. With this in mind, one way to bring a little bit of luck into your interior design is by incorporating lucky motifs into the featured aspects of the room.
For card game enthusiasts, this might mean looking at poker hands in order to determine the most lucky hands, depending on the style of poker they prefer. In Texas hold’em, for example, the best combination of cards is a ten, jack, queen, king, and ace of the same suit, otherwise known as a royal flush.
For others, the luckiest hand might be a straight flush – five cards of the same suit in order. The numbers or motifs can be blown up in prints, wallpaper, and more, serving as a lucky focal point of the room. As every player will naturally lean towards a different suit as their favorite, or most lucky, this provides an opportunity for personalization.
Depending on the suit that is chosen, the shapes and colors can be extracted and matched with other decorative elements of the room. Think heart-shaped pillows, clubs-inspired clamshell upholstery, spades-themed geometric rugs, or purposefully arranging square cushions in diamond shapes on your couch.
Mindful Color Choices
If prints and shapes are a little out of your comfort zone, don’t worry – you can still get a bold accent wall by choosing a lucky color. In fact, if you’re a fan of hearts and diamonds, you might already have chosen it – red!
Red is particularly considered lucky in Chinese culture, and it is commonplace in everything from weddings to birthdays, and especially during New Year celebrations. In Thailand, however, yellow is the luckiest color thanks to its royal connections, and shades of yellows and oranges are symbolic in Indian culture.
Another solid choice is green, not least due to its calming properties and links to nature. In Ireland, green is a link to the lucky four-leaf clover – and, in the Middle East it is a symbol of luck due to associations with the green man, the patron of travelers.
Bring the Outside In
Plants have long since been said to have lucky properties in different cultures all around the world. Further to this, research has found that plants do have a positive impact on us humans, boosting our moods, improving sleep, and even providing us with company.
There are many lucky plants for all kinds of green-fingered skill levels. The oxalis, otherwise known as the shamrock plant, is said to bring good luck into any home. Despite being a delicate plant, it is pretty low-maintenance, provided it is in bright, indirect sunlight. The pile, or Chinese money plant, is said to bring wealth and luck. This plant is great for propagating, so you can easily grow your collection.
Perhaps the luckiest plant of all is said to be the pachira aquatica or the money tree. This plant can grow in low levels of light and doesn’t need much watering, making it a great low-maintenance addition.
And there you have it – just a few simple ways to bring luck into your home, be it with carefully chosen color palettes or bold patterns and motifs and a selection of hardy foliage. All that’s left to do is get creative and start decorating!
