Kendrick Lamar Height: The 3rd Most Award-Winning Rapper in Grammy History—But Is He Really That Short?

Kendrick Lamar is around 5 feet 6 inches tall, which converts to approximately 1.68 meters, making him one of the shortest rappers in the industry. Various sources consistently confirm this measurement.

Still, does this short height undermine him? Aside from verbally being described as a shorty, Lamar’s short height didn’t stand in his way of success whatsoever. He has a net worth of $140 million as of 2024 to confirm this.

But how did he amass this huge amount?

The Beginning

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born on June 17, 1987, to parents Kenny Duckworth and Paula Oliver, in Compton, California. The state is no stranger to gang violence and poverty and his father was a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang.

But even still, Lamar managed to find solace and inspiration in music.

Kendrick Lamar’s Early Career

Kendrick Lamar began his career under the stage name K-Dot. He released his very first mixtape, “Youngest Head Nigga in Charge (Hub City Threat Minor of the Year),” or “Y.H.N.I.C.” in 2003 when he was just 16 years old.

Y.H.N.I.C. wasn’t a cultural phenomenon or anything, but it still gave Lamar some visibility.  It wasn’t long before he caught the attention of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), an independent record label that pretty much kickstarted his career.

However, his first big break was in the early 2010s with the release of his critically acclaimed mixtapes, “Section.80” and “m.A.A.d city.” These two albums, especially, m.A.A.d city, were Lamar’s slingshot.

Kendrick Lamar’s Career Progress

It didn’t take long for the ball to start rolling. Soon after m.A.A.d city (2012), bigger albums like To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), and DAMN. (2017) followed.

His work has earned him 17 Grammy Awards from 57 nominations, making him the third-most awarded rapper in Grammy history.

What’s even more impressive is that he won five Grammys at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in 2018, including Best Rap Album for DAMN., which also made history as the first non-jazz or classical work to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2018.

It doesn’t stop there, Kendrick’s influence extends beyond music; he was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2016.

His powerful performances, such as the medley at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, where he delivered a poignant commentary on race and identity through songs like “The Blacker the Berry” and “Alright,” pretty much made him a cultural icon.

Additionally, he has been involved in various philanthropic efforts and advocacy for social justice. What an achiever this man is, and it still doesn’t stop.

In 2023, Kendrick continued to demonstrate his relevance in the music industry by winning three Grammys for his album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

Closing Thoughts

Kendrick Lamar is only 1.68 meters (5 feet 6 inches) tall, but he stands pretty tall with his $140 million fortune (which will probably be even more by the time you read this).

The man’s a success. There’s no denying that. He earned his place, worked hard, and delivered, pretty much fulfilling the success formula. We can only wish him the best.
