Also known as a tonguegasmic blending of garlic, butter, parmesan and bread
Tonight, after putting these in the oven, I sat down to my laptop and tweeted this:
IMMEDIATELY– my @ stream was flooded with some really interesting replies
side note: y’all love y’all some butter and garlic and I love y’all the more for it![]()
These were the first two responses:
Y’all are so definitely my people, my friends — my Tribe.
I love that I say garlic and bread and y’all get just as excited as I do.
Nearly every dinner memory that I have around our family table includes some sort of bread – sliced white bread with spreadable butter, hot golden buttery croissants, crisp golden brown dinner rolls and my favorite: cornbread: and not cornbread baked in a square dish.. oh no, we’re talkin’ real southern cornbread — cooked in cast iron corn ‘stick’ molds served hot and crisp, cornbread that is dense, rich, grainy, corn-filled, slightly sweet sticks of delicious southern tradition slathered with butter and honey.
Digress much?
Okay, on today’s tonguegasmic recipe.
Melt one stick of butter with 3 to 4 freshly minced garlic cloves (I use my PC garlic press <3)
Take a can of your favorite breadsticks or crescents (I’ve used both)
have I mentioned that I’ve never made homemade bread?
Roll them out onto a flat surface and brush liberally douse them with the melted garlic butter
Grate some fresh parmesan over the dough.
– at this point, for the breadsticks, I separate them and then fold each on in half so that the ends meet and then I twist it in my hands and place it on the cooking sheet, top with more garlic butter, more grated parmesan and sprinkle liberally with poppy seeds.
Why poppy seeds?
My kids adore them and they add a bit of color and a truly delicious depth and crunch to these.
Bake these at 350 F for about 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown and you just can’t stand it anymore because the smell of the baking garlic and parmesan and melting butter makes you want to dive headfirst into your oven and devour these… scalded taste buds be damned.
Seriously, y’all.. try these. Tonight. They’re simple, delicious, they melt in your mouth and they leave the most delicious melted buttery-yeasty-garlicky flavor in your mouth — you almost don’t want to eat anything else.. and yes, you will keep smelling your hands. over. and over. and over. Or is that just me?
